Today was a gloomy day in Columbia, South Carolina literally and figuratively as University of South Carolina's Lady Gamecocks returned home after their upsetting loss to Syracuse. "Even though we did get the lead, we were just off," South Carolina coach Dawn Staley said. "We were just not in sync. They did a good job at winning the game." Even with Alaina Coates, A'ja Wilson and Tina Roy all scoring more than 15 points for South Carolina (33-2), whose only other loss was to UConn it wasn't enough.
Gamecocks held the lead for majority of the game up until the middle of the 3rd quarter where it seemed to all collapse. After a strong first half the Lady Gamecocks would go to lose the game 80-72.
Given the loss, and the understandable feelings that come with it, Lady Gamecocks still seemed to be in good spirits. A decent amount of Lady Gamecock supporters came to show their support and lend their words of encouragement to the somber players.
